He was born January 21, 1867 at Corksville, near Paris, in Logan County, Arkansas. He was the son of Thomas Dixon and Sarah Elizabeth Ringer Armour. Around 1873, the family moved to Tennessee and lived until circa 1879. The parents moved back to Arkansas to be near the Ringer relatives. They settled in Liberty Hall community, first living on McCollum farm and later on the Stevenson farm for several years. Shelby Lee was a tall man with black hair and red beard. His sister, Francis, said she thought his grandson, James Person, favored him in appearance. Shelby Lee married Susie Virginia George on December l5, 1889. They first lived on the Jess Mashburn place at Liberty Hall. They then moved to Mount George and lived in a little house owned by her father, Robert George. Elizabeth Armour, his mother, and her younger children moved near Shelby at Mount George. C1 - Bertha Mae Armour was born February 17, 1891. She was the first child of Shelby and Susie and the first grandchild of Robert George. ( Kenneth Lee George b August 15, 1945 s/o Walter John "Bill" George is the youngest grandchild of Robert George. jwg) A few years later the family returned to Liberty Hall. Elizabeth Armour and family moved to "Backbone Ridge" south of the Ringer farm, The year was 1893 and Francis Armour was 14. Shelby Lee and family moved to the Buck Armour farm. It was located near the Sherrid Merrit farm. A house was built on one corner of the land for them. C2 - Clarence Eugene Armour was barn July 25, 1893. C-3 Bazzel Armour was born about 1895. C-4 Tommie Armour was born about 1897. The two youngest boys died as infants and were buried at Mount George cemetery. Around 1900, Shelby Lee and family moved to Carden Bottom and his house went back to James Dixon "Buck" and Mollie Armour. Shelby Lee rented a house on a farm near Petit Jean Creek and near Lakeview community. Soon after moving, Shelby Lee was alleged to have gone back to his former home and chased down the hogs to move them. A few days later, he took ill with spinal meningitis. The relatives sent far his mother and she was with him on the day of his death, February 16, 1900. Due to bad weather, the women did not attend his funeral. Frank and Lewis George, brothers of Susie, took the corpse by wagon and team to Mount George for burial. On the way there, they stopped and spent the night at Harve Ringer's home. Harve Ringer an uncle of Shelby Lee, insisted they bury him in the Ringer cemetery where all of his relatives were buried. Lewis and Frank George would not consent to do this as they did not have the consent of Susie and there was no means of reaching her. The corpse was kept in Harve's home during the night. The next morning they set out to Mount George where Susie had requested they go. Frank and Lewis opened the grave near the two infants of Shelby's and Susie's. The three graves are at the head and west of Robert George's grave which has a Civil War marker. Shelby Lee was circa 15 years of age at the time of his father's death around.1882. He was the head of the family until his marriage in 1889. Susie Armour and her two children moved to old Neely after the death of Shelby Lee. They lived in a small house in the yard of Frank and Jennie George. Frank was a brother of Susie and Jennie was a sister of Shelby Lee. Their children were double cousins. Shelby Lee was born in Sarber County which name was changed to Logan County Arkansas in 1875.
