He was the son of Shelby Lee and Susie George Armour. He and his sister, Bertha, attended school at the Bennett schoolhouse which was near the old Liberty Hall church. They had a pet dog which met the children each afternoon after school. He had rabies one day and failed to meet them. Susie, their mother, came to tell them what was wrong with the dog so they would know to avoid touching or petting it. Clarence's two brothers, Bazzel and Tommie, had died young and were buried at Mount George. Bazzel was using a bottomless chair as a walker and pushed himself into the fire in the fireplace. He was badly burned but it was thought that the burn did not cause his death. About 1900, the family moved to Carden Bottom near Lakeview and the Petit Jean Creek to farm. His father, Shelby Lee, died February 16, 1900 with spinal meningitis. His mother, Susie, with her two children Bertha, age nine, and Clarence, age seven, moved to old Neely to live in a small house near Frank and Jennie George. In old Neely the children attended school there. In 1901, Susie George Armour married Frank Hulsey. With her children and his three ( Claudie, Maudie and Bill) they moved to Carden Bottom to live and farm. The children attended school when the field work was done. They lived near Fowler at first and then Lakeview. There were four children born to Susie and Frank Hulsey: Herbert, Ethel, Elma and Eathel. Susie died July 11, 1910 with what was then known as "congestion" and Clarence hired out to different people to farm in order to have a home as he was not happy living at home. He lived most of his time with Uncle Frank and Aunt Jenny George until his marriage in 1919. At one time he worked and stayed in the home of Hardin and Carrie George. Their daughter, Mae, said Clarence "Jake" seemed like a brother to her. On December 24, 1919, he married Trudie Eubanks who lived at New Hall. They ate supper and spent their first wedding night with Joe and Kelly Person who lived near the Eubanks family. They lived in Carden Bottom until all their twelve children were born, two died in infancy. They also lived and farmed in the Arkansas river bottom near Dardanelle, Arkansas. In 1946 their oldest son, Tommy Lee, with his new bride, went to Burney, California to work in the timber. There he found work more plentiful and life easier so he sent for his father " Jake" in the summer of 1955. A short time later his family moved. "Jake" had a nightwatchman job in Burney at a sawmill. The family later moved to Anderson, California. Now in their senior years (1968) they draw social security and some money from another source. Three Armour brothers (Jake's sons) have served in the United States military service. They are Tommy Lee, Clarence, Jr. and Robert. Eunice Armour married Wylie Tucker of Russellville, Arkansas. They had two children: Glinda Lou, a cripple which died soon after infancy and Shelby Lee who was reared by his grandparents, the Armours. Eunice then married William "Bub" Jones and they had four children. William Jones was run down and killed by an automobile on May 29, 1965 in Anderson, California. The Jones family left Arkansas around 1952. Eunice married Carol Taylor on December 1, 1965 and later she married Vernon Blake. After release from military service, Tommy Lee Armour married Jeanette Edwards and left Arkansas in 1946. Their two children were born in California. Tommy Lee follows public works and at the present in 1968 he is employed in Los Angeles, California. Virginia and Clarence Herbert Armour both died in infancy with a stomach complaint. Impure water was prevalent in those days. Delma Armour married in 1946 Tracy Murl Ragsdale while in Arkansas. They moved to Burney, California around 1947. Their children were also born in California. Tracy worked also in the timber and by 1968 he had a stroke which caused him to retire at an early age. James Erby "Stub" Armour moved with the family to California and married in that state. He has a daughter and also follows public works. At present he is also in Los Angeles (1968). Dortha Armour married Joe Vinson in 1952. They have lived in Pope County, Russellville, Arkansas where their four children were born. At present, they own a light fixture business in Russellville. Betty Sue Armour married Duard Finkenbinder in 1952. Their home is in Dardanelle, Arkansas where she and her husband are in the insurance business. They have three daughters. Janelle Armour moved early in life to California and married twice to California men. Her home is presently in Anderson and she has three children. Rebecca Armour moved to Burney with her family. She went to Los Angeles where she had a good job offer and later married Art Lopez who is a beautician. They have two children. Clarence Eugene Armour, Jr. moved with his family to Burney, California. He married and then separated from his wife. He has a son. He served in the Armed Forces and was released in 1967. He is following public works and is now employed in Los Angeles (1968). Robert Armour moved with the family to California. He also served in the Armed Forces and has been released recently. He is in Anderson, California in 1968. Shelby Lee Armour (Jake's grandson) moved with the family to Burney. He married and has two children. He now lives in Pomona, California and follows public works (1968). Clarence "Jake" Armour made three trips between California and Arkansas. The first trip was in May of 1959 to attend the funeral of his only sister, Bertha Armour Person. The other two trips were visits. In 1967 he had major surgery for colon trouble and in 1968 he had major surgery for gallstones. Breakdown of the Armour children was listed earlier in this book.
