The Names have been re-ordered into alphabetical order MEMORIAL TO THE CONGRESS BY INHABITANTS OF THE TERRITORY [NA:HF, 24 Cong., 1 sess.:DS] [Referred March 7, 1836] Your Memorialists the undersigned inhabitants of the Territory of Arkansas & Counties of Pulaski, Conway, Van Buren & Searcy, Respectfully Represent, That there should be a mail route established from Little Rock the seat of Government, by way of Jonathan Hardins on the East fork of Cadron Creek Conway County, (the distance of Forty two miles,) thence 16 miles to Eli Bentleys on the East fork of Cadron Creek thence to Clifton, the County seat of Van Buren (distance 25 miles) thence to Bear Creek in Searcy County, (distance thirty five miles) thence to Searcy Court House, (distance Twenty five miles.) where it intersects the mail route leading from Batesville to Washington Court House. Whole distance about one hundred & fifty miles, and that many important settlements on that route are without the facilities of a mail & humbly petition your Honor to Establish a Post Office at William Wylee's to be called Wylee's Post Office, & William Wylee to be Post Master, and one post office at Bentley to be called Bentleys Post office and Eli Bentley Post Master, and one Post Office at Bear Creek to be called Bear Creek Post Office and Charles R. Saunders to be appointed Post Master.
