All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** PLANTERS BANK PRESIDENT IN 1954-A native of Georgetown, Louisiana, and graduate of Brinkley High School, has always proved himself worthy of added responsibility. The son of the late Otto Herman and Daisy (Simmons) Cooper enlisted in the U. S. Army in May 1918, during World War I and was assigned to Battry B, 47th Regiment Coast Artillery Corps, A. E. F., and served overseas in France. After his discharge on March 13, 1919, he resumed his career in banking as bookkeeper and teller for the Peoples Savings Bank & Trust Co. in Pine Bluff. He became a state bank examiner in 1921 and served for six years. In 1926, he was employed with the Bank of Fordyce, as Asst. Cashier, and then became Cashier in 1931. In 1934 he became a bank examiner for the F. D. I. C., Washington, D. C. He returned to Fordyce Bank in 1936, and in 1943 was made President. In 1948, he accepted the Planters Bank & Trust Co. office of President, succeeding Mr. S. J. Dean. On June 19, 1921 he married Miss Lee Joy Slaton, daughter of the late Tom & Mrs. Mary (Bean) Slaton, and to this union was born two children, one grandson. SOURCE: HISTORY of ST.
