Rites Held For Mr., Mrs. Croney of Widener (Chronicle Newspaper)Services for Mr.
and Mrs. Gerald H. Croney of Widener, believed to be victims of carbon monoxide
poisoning, were held at 2 p. m. Saturday at Stevens Funeral Home in Forrest
City, followed by burial in Forrest Park Cemetery. The Rev. J. J. Clark
officiated at the services. Mr. Croney, who was 60 died at 11 p. m. last
Thursday, February 10, at John Gaston Hospital Memphis, where he had been in a
critical condition for about 11 days. Mrs. Croney was found dead on January 31,
and her husband was discovered unconscious by deputy sheriffs, who broke into
the home after they had been called by neighbors who had not seen the two for
two or three days. Mr. Croney had been a resident of Widener for 30 years and
was a merchant, and a member of the Methodist Church. He was born November 1,
1905, in Missouri. Survivers includes one son LIVING of Brinkley; one daughter,
LIVING of Clarksdale, Mississippi; one brother, LIVING of Pontiac, Michigan;
eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Croney was born on
August 31, 1914, in Mississippi County, Arkansas, the daughter of Olie D. Pike
and Roy Beal. She had lived in Widener for 20 years, and was a member of the
Methodist Church. She leaves three sisters, 2 LIVING of Memphis and LIVING of
Joiner.
