Vernon Hodges, 67, A Native of Forrest City and partner in a business here, died early today at Baptist Hospital, Memphis. Funeral services will be at 3 p. m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church by Rev. Clyde Hankins. Burial will be in Forrest Park Cemetery under direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Mr. Hodges had suffered with a heart condition for 10 years. He had been hospitalized in critical condition for two weeks. Born here on Sep. 1, 1896, Mr. Hodges was the son of Mrs. Emma Haven Hodges and Sam L. Hodges, Sr. A member of First Baptist Church, he also served the church as a deacon. A World War I veteran and a member of the American Legion, he also had served as a member of the Forrest City City Council for many years. he was a partner in Economy Furniture Company, and at the time of his death resided at 1619 South Washington Street. Mr. Hodges is survived by his wife, Mrs. Norma Sellers Hodges, whom he married 45 years ago; two daughters, Mrs. Glenn R. Hammons and LIVING, both of Forrest City. Four brothers, Basil A. Hodges of Conway, Norman L. Hodges of Pine Bluff, C. Haven Hodges of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and S. L. Hodges of Ventura, California; four sisters, Mrs. Doris Scaggs, Miss Evelyn Hodges, Mrs. L. R. Mullikin and Mrs. Paul J. Isbell, all of Forrest City; and five grandchildren. LOUISIANA-PVT-CO.
