LUCY CLAY GWYNN 8/27/1846-2/16/1927 CITY Cemetery [Wife of Joe Boon SANDERS-IMAGE1048- Birth: Aug. 27, 1846 Death: Feb. 16, 1927 - Per Descendant, Mrs. Meaney: DEATH CLAIMS MOTHER SANDERS-Died Wed, Feb. 16, 1927- FC Newspaper- Sunday Feb. 20. 1927- The Funeral of Mrs. Lucy Clay Gwinn-Sanders, 82, was solemnized in this city Saturday morning (Feb. 19) at 10: 30 at the Baptist church, followed by internment in the Forrest City cemetery. Deceased was the widow of the late Joseph B. Sanders who passed away at the family home in this city on Nov. 6, 1910. Two of her sons, Joe and Hall, also preceeded her into the great beyond. She is survived by five children, W. T., J. G., and J. T. of this city, Mrs. Alice Longest of Hernando, Miss., and Mrs. Lucy Hargraves of Memphis; also, a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Deceased was a consecrated Christian and a devoted and loving wife and mother. Services were conducted in honor of her sacred memory by her pastor, Rev. B. F. Davidson, assisted by Rev. J. F. McUnkin (sp?) of the Presbyterian church. The pall bearers at the funeral which was in charge of the undertaking firm of W. E. Stevens & Company were A. N. Brantley, T. W. Horney, E. Bruce Smith, F. F. Harrelson, James Cranor, and T. E. Christopher. Mother Sanders, as she was known to hundreds of friends who loved her, had not been well for a number of months and seemed to welcome the approaching time when her spirit would be freed from this earthly tabernacle. She walked daily with the Spirit and, in the passing of such a serene Christian character, there is no cause for tears. Her's was a life that will prove a beacon that will continue to linger here and will lead others who may be weak and faltering on the upward way. May God comfort the bereaved ones here and rest the soul of the departed in everlasting peace and joy. Photo courtesy of Mrs. Meaney, and the original obit, which I will share if you are interested.
