LONGTIME PRINCIPAL OF FC MIDDLE SCHOOL--IMAGE1137
Mrs. Alta Calhoun McDaniel, retired principal with the Forrest City Elementary
Schools, died Sunday, January 19, 1992 at Baptist Central Hospital in Memphis.
She was 92. Mrs. McDaniel was born Oct. 6, 1899 in Burnsville, Arkansas, the
daughter of Samuel H. Calhoun and Effie Davis Calhoun. She had lived in Forrest
City since 1922. going to work for the Forrest City School District in 1928. She
was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and
Musical Coterie. She was a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Finas D. McDaniel in 1945. She leaves two sisters,
Living, both of Stigler, Oklahoma; a niece, Susan Waltz of Tallahassee, Florida;
and a nephew, Living of Memphis. Funeral services were held Wednesday January
22, at 10 a. m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Elsworth Watson
officiating. Burial was in Forrest City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens
Funeral Home.
