All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** OLIVER LEE "JACK" SHIRLEY 1 25 1920-4 23 1993 Mr. Oliver Lee "Jack" Shirley of Colt died Friday, April 23, 1993 at his home. He was 73. Mr Shirley was born Jan 25, 1920 in Colt, the son of William Thomas Shirley and Laura Roberts Shirley. He had lived in Cross County all of his life. He retired from the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department in 1982 after serving as a finish motor patrol operator for 26 years. He was also a farmer, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Fitzgerald Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 32 years. He leaves his wife, Thelma Lee "Susie" South Shirley; a son, William Thomas Shirley of Colt; three daughters, Brenda Suzette Wilkins, Pamela Jeanne Taegtmeyer and Terry Lynn Morris, all of Colt; two brothers, William Henry Shirley of Red Bluff of California and James Homer Shirley of Cherry Valley; two sisters, Elsie Lee Bennett of Colt and Loura Catherine Garner of Forrest City; and eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 27, at 10 am at Kernodle Funeral Home Chapel in Wynne with the Revs Herbert Rowland and James Tallant officiating. Burial will be in Harris Chapel Cemetery in Wynne under the direction of Kernodle Funeral Home. Memorials may be sent to the Fitzgerald Baptist Church.
