All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgenwebarchives.org *********************************************** William Karnes, a prominent farmer of Washington County, Ark., and native of Hawkins County, Tenn., was born December 21, 1831, and came to Arkansas with his parents in 1851. He made his home with and assisted his parents on the farm, until 1859, and was then married to Lucinda Bloyed, and began doing for himself. He purchased a farm of 300 acres which was heavily timbered, and on which he located in 1860, and now has seventy acres cleared and in a fine state of cultivation. Mrs. Karnes was born July 7, 1840, in Washington County, Ark., and is a daughter of William Bloyed. Mr. and Mrs. Karnes are the parents of two children: A. E., the elder, was born in 1860, married James D. Dearing May 22, 1883, and died May 29, 1887, leaving three children; and Laddie, the younger, a son, was born October 18, 1876. Mr. and Mrs. Karnes have also taken charge of W. L. Byrd, a nephew, left an orphan when one year and ten months old, and who was born December 12, 1869. Mr. Karnes is a strong supporter of Republican principles, is a Master Mason, and he and wife are members of the Christian Church. He is a son of Andrew and Eliza Karnes, whose sketches appear in this work.
