Mcilroy, banker, is one of the highly respected and representative young business men of the county. He was born at Fayetteville October 13, 1866, and is the son of William McIlroy [see sketch]. After receiving a good public-school education in this city, he entered the Arkansas Industrial University, which he left while in the sophomore year to enter his father's bank, the health of the latter becoming impaired and his assistance being required. He had early in life displayed rare business qualities, and after working some time in the bank his services became so valuable that he became a member of the firm, after his father's death, which occurred September 13, 1886. Mr. McIlroy and his mother are by the father's will made sole executors of the estate. In July the name of the bank was changed from "William McIlroy & Co." to "The Banking House of McIlroy & Co." Mr. McIlroy has inherited his father's characteristics of business integrity and worth, and is deserving of the honor and respect with which the community regard him. He is interested in the growth of the city, and greatly aided in the organization of the Fayetteville [p.981] Electric Light Company, in which he is a stockholder. He is the present city treasurer, and is treasurer in the K. of H. and K. of P. lodges in this place. He is an active member of the Episcopal Church, and is a liberal donator to all laudable charitable enterprises.
