Blythe Petition To the Honorable Commissioner of Claims Under the Act of Congress of March 3, 1871, Washington, D.C. The Petition of James M. Blythe respectfully represents: That he is a citizen of the United States and resides at present in Washington County, Arkansas. That he has a claim against the United States for items taken and furnished by him while in the United States Army was a member of Company I 1st Arkansas Cavly Vols, also one furnished my Brother to ride in the service and was also captured and lost as follows: One horse furnished and rode by me while a soldier, said horse was 8 years old about sixteen and one half hands high, was captured and lost while I was on duty and in the line of service in the year 1864 worth $125.00 near Fayetteville Post while stationed there. Also eight bushels of corn taken by Sergent George W. Mainess of the first Ark Cavly Vols was worth the sum of one dollar per bushel $80.00. Also six hundred lbs of pork worth $10 per hundred amount $60.00. Also one horse rode by Zion Blythe my brother in the service, he was also captured from him while on duty in the army in the year 1863 worth the sum of $125.00. Total value of property $390.00. That all the items in the above schedule were of the full value therein set forth and were furnished and taken from your petitioner for the use of and were used by the United States army as stated were furnished and taken by 1st Ark Cavly Vols while stationed at Fayetteville Post in the year 1864. That no voucher, receipt or other writing was given therefor. That your petitioner resided at the time the said claim accrued in the United States Army was a member of Company I 1st Arkansas Cavly Vols commanded by Col M. LaRue Harrison. That I, James M. Blythe, was the original owner of said claim, and that I am still the present owner of the same. That your petitioner remained loyal adherent to the cause and the Government of the United States during the war, and was so loyal before and at the time of the furnishing and taking of the property for which the claim is made. That said claim has never before been presented to the War Department or General Government for collection. That George W. M. Reed, of Fayetteville, Ark., is hereby authorized and empowered to act as my Attorney for the prosecution of this claim. Wherefore your petition pray for such action of your Honorable Commission in the premises, as may be deemed just and proper. Witnesses: G.W.M. Reed James Blythe I, James M. Blythe being duly sworn for himself deposes and says that he is the petitioner named in the foregoing petitioner, and who signed the same; that the matters therein stated are true of the deponent's own knowledge, except as to those matters which are stated on information and belief, and as to those matters he believes them to be true; and deponent further says that he did not voluntarily serve in the Confederate army or navy, either as an officer, soldier, or sailor, or in any other capacity, at any time during the late rebellion; that he never voluntarily furnished any stores, supplies, or other material aid to said Confederate army or navy, or to the Confederate government, or to any officer, department, or adherent of the same in support thereof, and that he never voluntarily accepted or exercised the functions of any office whatsoever under, or yielded voluntary support to, the said Confederate government.
