All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** Morning News of Northwest Arkansas February 5, 1998 GENTRY – Mildred Emma Backer, 93, of Gentry died Feb. 4, 1998, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital. She was born March 22, 1904, in Pedro to E.W. and Fannie May Walker Butler. She was a life resident of Northwest Arkansas and had lived in Gentry since 1928. She was owner and operator of a variety store and a member of Victory Baptist Church in Gentry. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Roy Backer, in 1980; three sisters. Survivors include three sons, Charles E. Backer of Fayetteville, N.C., Bobby Lewis Backer and William Roy Backer, both of Gentry; one daughter, Barbara Whitmire of Douglas, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Butler of Siloam Springs; two sisters, Irene Phillips of Stella, Mo., and Frances McMillan of Siloam Springs. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Payne officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
