In Co. K Capt. Petigrew, Col. Brooks Regt. Fell asleep in the hospital at Cane Hill on Sunday March the 1st 1863. He was a native of Tenn and a resident of Washington Co. Ark at the time of his death. Was Wounded in the Prairie Grove Battle December the 7th 1862 by a ball passing through his thigh shattering the bone causing his affliction. Thirty two pieces of bone were taken from the wond he suffered much excruciating pain before the messanger announced "the Master is come and calleth for thee" but he bore it with manly fortitude and Christian resignation. He was favorable known as a public man was at the time of his inlistment a member of the State Legislature was among the warmest advocates of our cause and almost to his last moments rejoiced at the announcement of our success. He was 33 years of age left a wife and several children and many warm friends to morn his untimely sencoceal(? Can't read) Was a member of the Baptist church and after on his death bed spoak freely of his heavenly prospects and that blissfull invortality that belongs only to the truly pious. May God take care of his bereaved family and finly lead them thro himself in glory. Sleep on brave man. Never can the din of Battle disturb thy quite repose. He sleeps. Fagaus Regt. In Camp near Little Rock March 18, 1863. I copied this with the same spelling and punctuation of the document. It was in Lillie Mae's Bible. His brother was Daniel Thales Beya Boone. Daniel's granddaughter, Lillie Mae Boone, had the note in her bible. This is the same Benjamin Boone that is listed in Goodspeed's Biographies of Washington County. Submitted by: David A.
