All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** Morning News of Northwest Arkansas February 2, 1998 TUPELO, Miss. – Walter Nathaniel Duncan, 85, of Auburn, Miss., died Jan. 30, 1998, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born Oct. 11, 1912, in Fayetteville to William and Cleo Stringfield Duncan. He became an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God in 1935, pastoring churches in Arkansas and Texas until the early 1950s. In 1953, he moved to Tupelo and served as pastor of East Heights Assembly of God for the next 15 years. He was instrumental in the formation of several new churches in North Mississippi. He was self-employed as a construction contractor and heavy equipment operator. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Meredith Duncan, in 1992, to whom he was married Sept. 24, 1933, and an infant son. Survivors include five sons and four daughters-in-law, Paul Duncan and Doris of Nettleton, Miss., Herschel Duncan and Ruth of Springdale, David Duncan of Tupelo, Miss., Philip Duncan and Jeanne of Booneville, Miss., and Ralph Duncan and Diane of Franklin, Tenn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cleora Brown and Larry of Tupelo, Miss., and Sharon Baggett and Larry of Fayetteville; one half-sister, Cuba Pifer of Fayetteville; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the East Heights Assembly of God in Tupelo, Miss., with the Revs. F.L. Langley, Walter Davis and Kenneth Worley and the staff of Lee Memorial Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery with services in the church adjoining at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Wayne Danner and the Rev. Lee Cate officiating. Arrangements are by Booneville, Miss., Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Larry Smith, Bobby White, Thomas Wigginton, Shelton Polk, Robert Wilburn and Henry Burnett. Honorary pallbearers are other area ministers of the Assemblies of God.
