All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** Morning News of Northwest Arkansas February 8, 1998 SPRINGDALE – Oakley Charles Long, 88, of Springdale died Feb. 5, 1998, at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale. He was born Aug. 26, 1909, in Washington, Kan., to Charles C. and Eva Decker Long. He was a graduate of the Gospel Bible Institute in Kansas City, received his BSE degree from John Brown University and a master's in elementary education administration from the University of Arkansas. He was ordained in the gospel ministry in 1934, serving 15 years as a rural missionary and as pastor of various Baptist Churches for 27 years. He taught 10 years in elementary schools and was principal of Lee Elementary in Springdale for 24 years. He served as president of the systemwide in-service training program for Springdale elementary teachers; as president of the Springdale Education Association and attended the national teachers convention in New York City. He retired from school work in 1975. He then served two years as president of the Washington County Retired Teachers Association and maintained membership in local, state and national organizations for teachers and retired teachers. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Springdale where he taught Sunday school classes, served on various committees and was first superintendent of Shiloh Christian School. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Ruth Enyart Long, on Nov. 10, 1996; three brothers; three sisters. Survivors include three sons, Everett Long of Whitewater, Wis., Leslie Long of Springfield, Mo., and David Long of Springdale; one daughter, Wilma Deason of Springfield; one sister, Wilma Jones of Anchorage, Alaska; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Ronnie Floyd, the Rev. Charles Foster and Joe Dorman officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery under the direction of Sisco Chapel of Springdale. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 1709 Johnson Road, Springdale 72762. ------------------------------------- SPRINGDALE – Oakley Charles Long, 88, of Springdale died Feb. 5, 1998, at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale.
