DEATH OF JAMES S. McCLATCHY AT EVANSVILLE Capt Jas. S. McClatchy, one of Washington county's oldest and most highly respected citizens, died at his home in Evansville Monday morning at 5 o'clock. He has been a sufferer for several years from kidney trouble, which has of late been very severe. Mr. MacClatchey came from East Tennessee to Washington county before the Civil War. He served through the war in the Confederate Army. Mr. McClatchy had lived to the ripe old age of 75 years. He leaves a loving companion, brothers, sisters and other relatives, and a host of friends to mourn his death. Thus death is rapidly thinning the ranks of the veterans who for four long years fought and struggled for their beloved Southland. The funeral services were conducted at the home of the deceased Monday evening by Rev. J.K.P. Crozier and the Masonic Fraternity, of which he was an honored member. He was buried at Cincinnati Tuesday by the Masonic Fraternity. His loved ones have the sympathy of our entire community A Friend Obituary On the 26th day of Oct 1903 at 5:30 a.m. departed this life James S. McCLATCHY of Evansville, Ark, full of year and honors. Brother McClatchey was born in McMinn Co. Tennessee Oct 13, 1823, being 75 years and 13 days from birth to death. Married MIss Ellen GILBREATH June 5, 1857(should be June 6) 1857. He came to Arkansas in the year 1860. In the war between the States he was a volunteer in the Confederate army, joining the same in 1862 and serving to the close with honor and distinction to himself. He was initiated, passed and raised to Master Mason in Flint Lodge in 1868, and was a charter member of Valley Lodge No. 328, F. and A.M. and as a mason was very faithful, having held most every position in the lodge with credit and honor to himself. He was true to his country and faithful to his lodge. Brother McClatchy was always ready to do acts of kindness and friendship that will live in the memories of his friends and we hope to meet him in the Eternal City and Grand Lodge, where there will be; no more parting, pain and sorrow; where there is no need of any candle, sun, moon, or stars, but where God is the light which all Masons hope to enjoy forever. Brother McClatchy was a good friend, kind neighbor, brother and husband. As such we will ever remember him and assure Mrs. Ellen McClatchy that we will ever assist her and regard her as our sister, and we pray that we may so live that when death comes to us we may be ready and all meet in that Celestial City where all is joy. May God bless all of our friends Resolve, that a copy of these resolutions be furnished the widow and that they be spread upon the minites of the Lodge, and a copy be sent to the Fayettevill Democrat for publication, and that the members wear the usual badge of mourning 30 days F.M.
