All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** Morning News of Northwest Arkansas February 4, 1998 TULSA, Okla. – Loran Maples, 76, of Tulsa died Jan. 30, 1998. He was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Tioga, Texas, and grew up in Bonham, Texas. He was a member of the band at Texas A&M University and was a captain in the Army during World War II, serving in the Philippines. He was superintendent for U.S. Gypsum Co. of Port Clinton, Ohio, for 20 years before retiring to Fayetteville, where he grew orchids. He moved to Tulsa in 1991 and was a past president of the Tulsa Orchid Society, the American Orchid Society and the Southwest Regional Orchid Growers Association. Survivors include his wife, Ninette Allen Maples of Tulsa; one daughter, Vickie Jones of Fayetteville; one son, Don Maples of Harker Heights, Texas; one brother, Herron Maples; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. John's Episcopal Church. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville under the direction of Stanleys Funeral Service of Tulsa.
