Dare McGilliard, Ph.D., 71, of Bella Vista died Feb. 5, 1998, at his home. He was born Oct. 15, 1926, in Stillwater, Okla., to Paul and Laura Inslee McGilliard. He was a Navy Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a 1951 graduate of Oklahoma State University with a B.S. degree in diary science and in 1952 received a master of science degree in animal nutrition from Oklahoma State. He earned a doctorate from Michigan State University in 1961. He retired professor emeritus from Iowa State University after 30 years of service on the faculty. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, a charter member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Ames, Iowa, and was a past ER of the Elks Lodge BPOE 1606 in Ames. He was a golfer and moved to Bella Vista in 1987 from Ames. He was preceded in death by two sons. Survivors include his wife, Margaret L. McGilliard of the home, to whom he was married 46 years; one son, Lance M. McGilliard of Naperville, Ill.; one daughter, Laurann A. Ranker of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Lon D. McGilliard of Okemos, Mich.; two sisters, Jean H. Schuetz and Faye Morris, both of Tulsa, Okla.; three grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bella Vista Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Bartruff officiating. Arrangements are by Callison-Lough Funeral Home of Bentonville. Cremation was by Benton County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to Oklahoma State University Foundation, P.O. Box 1749, Stillwater, Okla. 74076, and for the President's Distinguished Scholarship.
