Melton, 72, of Gravette died Feb. 3, 1998, at Gravette Medical Center. He was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Cushman to William Albert and Dora Ellen Tarwater Melton. He was a heavy-equipment operator for the California Portland Co. until his retirement and was a member of the American Legion and the VFW in California. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a Baptist. He moved to the area in 1995 from Strawberry. Survivors include his wife, Millie Melton of Gravette; two sons, William R. Melton of Gravette and Mickahel D. Melton of San Jose, Calif.; four daughters, Linda Spangler of Gravette, Deiana Duffy of San Antonio, Texas, Patricia Spangler of Porterville, Calif., and Betty Krell of Cottage Grove, Ore.; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Gravette with the Rev. Ricky Williams officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery in Fayetteville at a later date. Cremation was by Benton County Memorial Park Crematory. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to cancer research or the Salvation Army.
