Morrow Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock this afternoon at the Rogers High school auditorium for Capt. Douglas E. Morrow, the only member of the Rogers National Guard unit to lose his life in Korea. Morrow was a former member of the Holcomb Street Church of Christ in Springdale and preached there and in rural churches, as a lay minister. He lost his life October 8, 1951 when artillery ammunition being used by the Bentonville battery exploded. Several other men were injured by the blast. Capt. Morrow was born near Paragould, Ark., November 17, 1917, the son of Thomas C. and Sylvia Clark Morrow. He attend Paragould schools until 1928 when his family moved to a farm near Springdale in Benton county. He had previously served with the National Guard unit during World War Ii, overseas, then rejoined the service for the Korea fighting on leave from the postoffice, where he worked. Mayor Robert Vogt proclaimed Tuesday as a day of Mourning for men lost in Korea and business offices were to close from 3 to 4 p.m. for the funeral. In addition, the Rogers schools were closed. Eld Otis R. Jones of Rucumcari, N.M., assisted by Eld Ralph Gage of Fort Smith, were in charge of the rites and burial was in the Rogers cemetery under direction of the Burns Funeral home. -------------------------------------------------------------------------
