Jan. 19, 1986 Jesse E. Wilkie, 79, of Fayetteville died Saturday in a Fayetteville hospital. Born March 17, 1906, at Westville, Okla., the son of John W. and Lizzie D. Carter Wilkie, he was a retired farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He had moved to the area from Westville, Okla., 17 years ago and was a member of the Black Oak Baptist Church and the Fayetteville American Legion Sheldon-Tucker Post #27. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Brown Wilkie of the home; two step- daughters, Mary Lou Saunders of Colcord, Okla., and Shirley Vilfordi of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Cole L. Wilkie of Marysville, Calif.; a sister, Stella Kirk of Westville, Okla.; seven grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. Funeral will be at 11 p.m. Tuesday at Moore's Chapel with burial in National Cemetery. January 22, 1986 Emily Ruth Pate, 93, of Rogers died Jan. 21 at St. Mary's-Rogers Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 9, 1892, in Talmage, Texas, the daughter of Sanford and Emily Williams Gosnell. She was the leader of the first registered Girl Scout troop in Rogers, an active member of the Women's Study Club and instrumental in the founding of the first public library in Rogers. She was a board member for the Rogers Hough Memorial Library for several years, a member of the First Baptist Church where she had been active in WMU and had lived in Rogers since 1929. She was the widow of Everett W. Pate, who was the former owner and operator of the ROGERS DAILY NEWS. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ruth Garner and Nina Corley of Rogers; a foster son, Joe Hudgens of Urbandale, Iowa; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Callison-Lough Funeral Home of Rogers with the Rev. Dan J. Rowell officiating . Interment will be in the Benton County Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Burns Funeral Home of Bentonville. ----------------- Nellie Melvina Brown, 87, of Fort Washington, Md., formerly of Bentonville, died Jan. 18 in Clinton, Md. She was born Sept. 5, 1899, in Rose Woodson County, Kan., the daughter of Capt. Harvey and Belle George Slater. She was a member of the Bentonville Christian Church and a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, G. Maxine Perry of Fort Washington, Md.; two sisters, Dora A. Gillet of Kalispell, Mont., and Pearl M. Jackson of Elliston, Mont.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Callison-Lough Funeral Home of Bentonville with Dr. Don White officiating. Interment will be in Benton County Memorial Park Cemetery. Bromell, 88, of Fayetteville died Jan. 21 in a Fayetteville hospital. He was born Nov. 21, 1897, in Osawatomie, Kan., the son of John E. and Emma Neier Bromell. He was a carnival owner and a member of the Nazarene Church. He moved to Fayetteville in 1929 from Kansas City, Mo. Survivors include a son, Raymond Bromell of Dallas; three daughters, Cecilia Carlsen of Summerland Key, Fla., Arline Bromell of Kansas City, Mo., and Frankie Zubor of the U.S. Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; three sisters, Christina Asele of Tracy, Calif., Sylvia Nelson and Pauline Mitts of Stockton, Calif.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was born Sept. 12, 1907 in Durham, the son of John Eli and Mollie Nunn White. He was a retired plumber and pipe fitter, a former member of the Masonic Lodge, a Protestant and a lifetime resident of the area. Survivors include his wife, Mabel Stokenbury White of the home; two daughters, Frances Kelly and Lois Page of Fayetteville; four sons, Paul White of Springdale, Bennie L. White and Roger White of Fayetteville and John D. White of Goshen; a sister, Florence Parker of Fayetteville; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Moore's Chapel of Fayetteville with the Rev. N. Lee Cate officiating. Burial will be in McCord Cemetery at Elkins. He was born Dec. 15, 1918, in Kingston, the son of Adam S. and Mary Duke Madewell. He was a Pentecostal and an employee of Welch Foods. Survivors include two sons, Alfred Madewell of Pea Ridge and Danny Madewell of Springdale; six daughters, Mary Main of Lowell, Sharon Proud, Ava Franklin and Nancy Whittle of Springdale, Brenda Madewell of Benton and Glenda Edens of Nob Hill; a brother, Ira Madewell of Lowell; two sisters, Nellie Moore of Springdale and Elsie Bearden of Modesto, Calif., and 12 grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Sisco Chapel of Springdale with burial in Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. -------------------- Paul Eugene Walker of Siloam Springs died Jan. 21 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Fayetteville, the son of Mart and Mabel Walker. He was a retired livestock dealer. Survivors include three sons, Ronald Ray Walker, Paul David Walker and Richard Dale Walker of Tulsa; a sister, Beulah Cooper of Fayetteville and one grandchild. He was born Nov. 15, 1943, in Saymore, Texas, the son of William and Luanna Oliver. He was a truck driver. Survivors include his wife, Betty Oliver of the home; two sons, Kenneth L. Oliver and Shiloh Oliver of the home; four daughters, Gayla Oliver and Lori Oliver of the home, Jacquline Ostendorp of Tacoma, Wash., and Terri Dantord of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; his parents, William and Luanna Oliver of Kansas, Okla., and one grandchild. Survivors include a son, T.J. Johnson of Springdale; two daughters, Wilma True of Oklahoma City and Daisy Cook of Fayetteville; a sister, Annie Proctor of Corpus Christi, Texas; five grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Thursday, January 30, 1986 Fred Wright, 80, of Berryville died Jan. 25 at Carroll General Hospital in Berryville. He was born June 4, 1905 in Carroll County, the son of Berton Edward and Mary (Huggins) Wright. He was a farmer and a member of the Hill United Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Berniece W. (Johnson) Wright, to whom he was married in 1933, and several nieces and nephews. Services were Tuesday at Nelson Chapel in Berryville with the Rev. Harold Duvall and the Rev. J. B. Yarbrough officiating. Interment was in Berryville Cemetery. --------------------- John Robert Mitchell, 53, of Springdale died Jan. 29 at Springdale. He was born June 10, 1933, in Webster County, Miss., the son of John E. and Adeline Campbell Mitchell. He was a diesel mechanic and a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Anna Cowell Mitchell of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Donna) Jones and Mrs. Gregory (Vivian) Travis of Springdale; four brothers, Charles Mitchell of Pascagoula, Miss., Aaron Mitchell of Starkville, Miss., Ralph Mitchell of Stewart, Miss., and Ned Mitchell of Bentonville and three grandchildren. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery. ---------------------- Jason Earl Starnes, 94, of Huntsville died Jan. 29 at his home. He was born Aug. 3, 1891, the son of Nichols and Betty Rucker Starnes. Joe St. Clair officiating. Interment was in Ontario Cemetery in Ontario, Calif. ---------------------- Myrtle Byrd, 72, of Fayetteville died Jan. 29 at a Fayetteville hospital. She was born Oct. 30, 1913, in West Fork, the daughter of Nathan Carl and Sarah Ann Fitts Rieff. She was a homemaker and a lifetime resident of the area. Survivors include her husband, Dane Byrd of the home; two sons, Harold Byrd of Fayetteville and Jarold Byrd of Paramount, Calif.; a daughter, Betty Bennett of Newport Beach, Calif.; a sister, Maybelle Vance of Bakersfield, Calif.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Nelson Furneral Home of Fayetteville with the Rev. Sam Witt officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery. ---------------------- Jewel Leroy Calico, 39, of Huntsville died Jan. 28 at his home. He was born Nov. 7, 1946, at Clifty, the son of Jewel Henry and Alice Edna McLoud Calico. He was a farmer. Survivors include his mother, Alice McLoud of Huntsville, and three sisters, Joyce Hull of Eureka Springs, Hope Stephens of Ellinwood, Kan., and Faith Reynolds of Tulsa. Services were today at the Clifty Chapel Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Reynolds and the Rev. Cecil Garrison officiating. Interment was in Clifty Cemetery.
