Persons or organizations desiring to use this material for purposes other than stated above must obtain the written consent of the file contributor. *************************************************** SIGNATURES FOLLOWING PETITION; THESE WERE SOME OF THE FIRST SETTLERS We the undersigners-citizens of White Co., feling our selves much agreaved & Laboring under many disadvantages for the want of a County Seat do therefore petition your Hon'l body to locate the Same on the SE 1/4 of the NE 1/4 of Section 10 in township 7N & range 8W the place known as the property of John Howerton James Walker & John Cook cald Searcy, & for which the said John Howereton James Walker & John Cook do agree to donate to the County 10 acres of Said purposs to be layd off in a square tract of the NW corner of Said land above named & also John Howerton doth agree to donate 4 acres-adjoining Said Acres on the N side. The commicationers heare to fore elected by the voters of the County for the purposes of Selecting a County Seat- have entirely faild in the object for which they were elected. Three of the number did Select a place and sold lots but never mad titles the Site Selected by them is entirely objectionable to a large majority of the citizens of the County. We hope therefore you Hon'l body will take the subject into consideration & grant us a petition & we further Recommend to you Hon'l body John Magness Micall Owens & John Arnold as Suitable men for Commitioners to carry into effect the above object & we your petitioners will ever pray, Etc.
