B.Y. PETERSON History of Arizona, page 507 B.Y. Peterson, who is rendering capable and appreciated service as Postmaster at St. Johns, is one of Apache County's best known citizens, having spent practically his entire life in this section of the state. He was born at Winslow, Navajo County, on the 17th day of April 1879 and is a son of M.H. and Amelia A. (Anderson) Peterson, both of whom were of Scandinavian descent and the former of whom was a farmer by vocation. B.Y. Peterson attended the public schools and for a while gave his attention to farming and sheep raising. In 1901 he entered Brigham Young University , Utah which he attended three years when he became identified with the Anderson Mercantile and Drug Company with which concern he was connected for six years. During 1911 he remained unemployed because of impaired health and in 1912 was elected Clerk of the Superior Court of Apache County, which office he filled in a very satisfactory manner for three years and then resumed his farming operations. In 1919 he was appointed Clerk of the County Board of Supervisors, retiring from that position in 1925 when he returned to his farm. In 1928 he was appointed Post Master of St. Johns and is handling the affairs of that office in his usual thorough manner. He still owns his farm, which is devoted largely to dairying. On May 24, 1904 Mr. Peterson married Stella Jarvis of St. Johns and to them have been born twelve children, three of whom are deceased.
