GILBERT D. UDALL History of Arizona, page 505 Gilbert D. Udall, manager of the Udall Transportation Company at Holbrook, is not an old man in years, but has led a busy and active life. He ha been successful in his affairs and is held in high esteem by all who know him. He was born in Eagar, Apache County, on May 13, 1895 and is a son of David and Ida (Hunt)Udall. He attended the public schools, graduated from the St. Johns High School in 1915 and had two years work in the State Normal School at Flagstaff. In 1917 he was employed as a salesman in a store and during the two following years he drove a stage for his father. In 1920 he established a freight line of his own, which he ran until 1923, when he engaged in the construction contracting business. In 1924 Mr. Udall became local agent for the Beneficial Life Company of Salt Lake City and in the following year he taught one term of school. In 1926 he obtained a government mail contract, covering two routes and is still handling them. He is also in active operation of the Udall Transportation Company of which he is the manager. On June 2, 1917 he married Sarah Brown of St. Johns Arizona and they are the parents of seven children: Eleanor, Verna, Douglas Brown, Pearl, Wendell, Francis and John Alfred.
