Lt. HENTIG Apache County March 3, 1898 This town was named after General Orlando B. Wilcox who was in command of the department of Arizona in 1881 with headquarters at Fort Whipple. It was during his administration that Lt. Hentig met his death on Cibicu Creek in Apache County when his party met a body of Indian Apache scouts who revolted because of the effort of Hentig's men to secure a medicine man. Four of the scouts were captured, tied and hung up at Camp Grant.
