TOMBSTONE Tombstone is the county seat of Cochise County, the banner mining and cattle county of the state. It was here that the rich discovery of ore was made in 1878 by Edward Schieffelin, an intrepid pioneer who braved the dangers of an Apache infested section and with grim humor named the place Tombstone. His daring venture won him golden reward and made famous one of the West's most notable mining camps. Tombstone pioneer history is full of turbulent incidents of thrilling frontier life; possesses a remarkable record of mining production, and is located in the heart of a mineral district of wonderful possibilities. A DELIGHTFUL CLIMATE. Tombstone climate cannot be surpassed, and its superiority proclaims Tombstone as a natural sanitarium, being in an altitude where the seasons are so happily blended that extremes in temperature are practically unknown. The summer months are altogether delightful, cool and invigorating, the altitude of 4500 feet bringing to it the dry atmosphere devoid of humidity so conducive to health and long life, thus attaining the highest degree of climatic perfection. Relief is afforded many afflicted with asthma and bronchial troubles, while the wonderful climatic advantages hold out to the health seeker, those of impaired vitality, the hope of freedom from the ills almost inseperable from a residence in the cold and moist atmospheres of less favored localities. Here Nature offers her best gift of pure and invigorating air, which, together with good water, the inspiration of the scenery and tonic effect of sunshine, is beneficial to the sufferer. OFFICIAL AND CIVIL. Tombstone, located on the E. P. & S. W. R. R., is an incorporated city with well built city hall; has volunteer fire department; county court house, one of the best in the state; large public school building and high school facilities; four churches representing Catholic, Episcopal, Methodist and Congregational denominations; fraternal organizations well represented; modern business houses; natural drainage system; two newspapers, Tombstone Prospector, published daily, and Tombstone Epitaph, published weekly; active Chamber of Commerce.
