MANUEL FONTES ROMNA RIBERA January 5, 1897 Arizona Republican Newspaper Thursday morning about 10 o'clock says the Bisbee Orb, the attention of the officers was attracted to the vicinity of the slag dump by three pistol shots. Investigation developed the fact that a murder and suicide was the result. In one of the small Mexican shacks in that neighborhood lay the bodies of Manuel Fontes and Ramna Riber. The two had been living together for some time and were supposed to have been married. Manuel being of a jealous disposition objected to his wife talking to the miners who were at work near the house. He had upbraided her several times during a few days previous to the shooting for this offense. On Thursday morning they had some words regarding the same which ended in Manuel pulling his six-shooter and shooting the woman through the head, the ball entering the back of her head and coming out between the eyes, causing instant death. He then turned the weapon on himself, holding it against his forehead, the bullet passing through the head, also causing instant death. The third shot was fired by the contraction of the muscles in his hand which held the revolver. The coroner's jury found a verdict in accordance with the above facts.
