ERNEST KUYKENDALL Cochise Co. Az Arizona Republican Newspaper Feb 2, 1910 An automobile party from this city, which hurried to the Swisshelm Mountains last night in the hope of capturing two Mexicans who had killed one American and fatally wounded another, found the Mexicans had fled. Ernest Kuykendall, his father and Owen Plumb, were engaged in paying off the Mexicans at a woodcutters' camp when without warning the Mexicans lifted axes and struck down the two younger men. Samuel Kuykendall, the father, who is nearly blind, started to run in the direction of the wagon wherein were the guns at which the Mexicans fled. The old man hid in the bushes until dark and then crawled home to a neighbors. Earnest Kuykendall died this morning and Plumb will not live.
