POLLICARPIA URIAS November 26, 1898 Arizona Republican Newspaper Pollicarpia Urias died Monday from the wound he received a few days before. A corner's jury said that death was caused fro the effects of a bullet wound in the left breast from a Winchester rifle, which was accidentally discharged while in his hands. There were but two witnesses examined, a sister of 16 years and his brother-in-law Cacario Ruiz, a boilermaker in the employ of the Copper Queen Company. Ruiz knew only that upon being apprised of the accident he went to where Urias was and the latter asked him to promise to take care of his mother and sister. The young sister was the only person besides himself in the house at the time the shooting occurred, says the Bisbee Orb. She stated that between 9 and 10 o'clock in the morning her brother arose from his bed and without saying anything walked to a corner of the room where his Winchester rifle was, and taking it in his hand started toward the center of the room. Almost immediately she heard the shot and saw that her brother had been wounded. He sank to the floor and laid there groaning, while she, terror stricken, ran to alarm her mother and other relatives nearby. In a few moments she returned with them and her wounded brother was laid on the bed. She heard him make no remark at the time of the shooting or afterward, except to ask for water, and she could assign no reason why he should have shot himself intentionally. No further facts could be learned by the committee appointed by the Spanish American Society to investigate the affair and they accepted the finding of the coroner's jury.
