MARTIN CLANCY Arizona Republican Newspaper December 9, 1895 Near Williams Sunday night, Conductor Clancy of a freight on the Atlantic and Pacific railway was killed by a tramp. The murderer as yet has not been captured. December 10, 1895 Monday night the tramp who murdered Conductor Martin Clancy near Williams, was apprehended in a Rock Butte station on the Santa Fe, Prescott and Phoenix. In the capturing possee were Sheriff Ruffner and U.S. Deputy Marshal Morrell and Deputy Sheriff Nellis of Williams, The fellow who was a brawny american did not deny the killing but claimed justification in that Clancy had been throwing rocks at him to get him off the freight car brake beam. He still had the pistol with which the murder was committed. He was taken to Flagstaff and there imprisoned. December 13, 1895 Sheriff Ruffner returned yesterday from the scene of the capture of the murderer of Conductor Clancy. He says the man is spare made, six feet with with light mustache and of hobo appearance. He had the revolver with which he shot Clancy. It was a small 38 caliber. He did not deny the shooting but stated that Clancy kept thrownig coal at him after he put him off the train. That before he fired he warned Clancy to stop or he would hurt him, that he only saw Clancy's legs when he shot and the bullet must have struck a rod and glanced.
