GEORGE STAPLES May 10, 1896 Az Republican Thursday word came that George Staples, a ranchman living about forty five miles southwest of Winslow in Coconino County had committed suicide. Justice Prime went to the scene with a jury and determined that Staples had come to his death by his own hand. The suicide was a most deliberate one; the deceased placing a double barreled shotgun to his head and discharging it by pressing the trigger with a long stick. The whole top of his head was blown off. Staples was well known in this vicinity, having worked around here for the past fourteen years. Deceased was between 45 and 50 yeaars of age. He had been in poor health lately and had threatened to end his life.
