DAVID JAMES Arizona Republican Newspaper, Phoenix October 22, 1907 Globe, Az. David James one of the proprietors of the Globe Electric Light and Gas Company was shot and possibly fatally wounded early this evening by H.S. Buckner. James was coming from the gas plant and when almost opposite the Kinney Hotel, Buckner who was apparently waiting rode up on a horse, drew a revolver and at close range shot James just below the heart. Buckner made his escape but the officers are on his trail. There is little chance for him to get away. He is supposed to have left for the Gibson Mining Camp eighteen miles from Globe and that camp has been notified by telephone. It is understood that the reason for the shooting was trouble over mining claims. Buckner during his stay that day had threatened to kill James and several others, among them N.C. Cotte, James' partner. It is believed that Buckner who is a desperate character will put up a fight if got at bay and more bloodshed is expected. MORE ON JAMES October 25, 1907 Attorney Alfred Franklin returned yesterday from Globe and was there when David James was shot by H.M. Buckner. James was crossing the railroad track near the hotel when a man rode up to him and fired. The bullet struck James on the breast but ws diverted downward by bone and passed through his liver and stomach. He walked to the office of the gas company and sat down, and talked calmly of the affair. Doctors examined the wound and took James to the hospital for an operation. In the meantime his wife and four year old child were brought in and for the first time the man showed signs of weakness. He clung to the child and left reluntantly to go upon the table form which he may not live. The scene was a most pathetic one.
