John Meadows November 21, 1904 Arizona Republican Newspaper The Globe Silver Belt says: Word has been received that John Meadows was shot and painfully wounded last Sunday evening about dark by some unknown man, between Dripping Springs Ranch and the Gila River. Meadows was on his way to troy at the time and met the man--both being on horseback--who grasped the bridle rein of Meadows' horse and upon being asked what he wanted, drew a six shooter and fired, the ball passing between Meadows' body and left arm, cutting the clothing. Meadows' horse, frightened by the shot, plunged, and a second shot struck Meadows in the left leg between the knee and hip, passing through the fleshy part of the thigh. Meadows managed to retain his seat in the saddle and his horse ran away carrying him quickly out of the range of his assailant's gun.
