JOE DEMPSEY April 29, 1897 Arizona Silver Belt Joseph E. Dempsey was in Globe this week after an absence of twelve years. He found the town and people greatly chnaged although there are many old-timers here who remembered and greeted him cordially. Dempsey was a partner of Ed Lidolph in the Golden Eagle Mine, which they sold about the year 1880 to Fisk, Stout and Company. Dempsey was one of the earliest locators in the Upper Deer Creek coal fields and still holds claims there adjoining the Lillie and Anderson locations. Recently he has been giving his attention to prospecting rich copper claims in Garden Gulch, included within the strip to be segregated from the San Carlos Reservaiton. Nothing can be done in the way of developing mines until the strip is opened for settlement.
