EDNA ALLEN THOMAS A. ALLEN April 14, 1896 Globe: In one of the most shocking tragedies in the history of Arizona Thomas a. Allen murdered his wife, Edna Allen in cold blood at Miami, six miles north of here early today and closed the last bloody chapter of an unhappy marriage by blowing out his brains with a rifle. Allen killed his wife without warning. Approaching her as she bent over a wash tub he fired a charge of buckshot into her head tearing away the greater part of the skull and causing instant death. As the unfortunate woman fell dead her entire brain was strewn over the floor. The husband wrote a hurried note regarding the disposition of his property, placed the muzzle of a repeating fifle in his mouth and fired. Jealously and a belief that his wife was unfaithful and a threatened criminal prosecution for the issuance of a worthless check were said to have been the cause of the tragedy. A week ago Mrs. Allen filed suit for divorce against her husband charging him with cruelty, habitual intemperance and theats to kill. The summons was served on the husband yesteray and it is thought that he made up his mind at once to end the lives of both. He had been insanely jealous of his wife and their quarrels had been frequent in the past. The Allens came to Miami from Creede, Colorado having been married in Kansas City three years ago.
