Lee Hedgedon September 17, 1892 Arizona Silver Belt It may be remembered that a few weeks ago an account of the killing of Lee Hedgedon and a young mexican in his company was given in the Liberal. This killing occurred near Frank Davenport's ranch, near Hachita and at the same time Davneport's ranch house was robbed and some of his horses stolen. At the time it was generaly supposed to be the work of Indians, but even at that time men who know Indians and their habits said the work was not done by Indians but by white men. Quite a number of stock have been also missing from this neighborhood, belonging to M.W. McGrath, Nick Hughes and Jim O'Donnell. A few days ago, deputy sheriff Baca, Bud Moore, of Head and Hearst's, and a cowman caputured a man south of Hachita with a horse and saddle that did not belong to him and took him over to Silver. Several weeks ago, a stranger giving his name as J.F. Mussey was at Solomonville disposing of horses. As the horses corresponded with the description of those missing from Separ, the man was arrested and bound over to await the action of the grand jury, but the probabilities are that he will be taken to Silver City. Frank Davenport went over and recovered one of the horses ans did several parties from Separ. These horse thieves may play an important part in the clearing up of the mystery connected with Lee Hogedon's death. There is supposed to be one member of this band still at large.
