William Letcher Arizona Silver Belt May 8, 1896 Thomas Letcher is in receipt of a letter announcing the death of his brother, Willam, caused by an explosion of gas in the mine of which he was foreman at Compania de Huauchaca, Boliva, South America. The deplorable accident happened Feburary 26th and twenty six miners were suffocated. William Letcher was 46 years of age and a native of Cornwall, England where his wife and three children reside. The deceased had lived in South America, the greater portion of the time since 1869 and had been foreman of the mine in which he was killed since 1884 which is evidence of the confidence reposed in him by the company. The Letcher family has been peculiarly unfortunate. Of four brothers, Tom and Harry survive, and Harry, now in England, is almost totally blind, the result of a premature blast some years ago at Mammoth, Ariz.. we extend our sympathy to the bereaved family.
