A. MORTON ROBERT SCHMELING JOHN HOSSMAN HANS MICKELSEN Sept. 26, 1891 Arizona Silver Belt C.J. Johnson is in receipt of a letter from Louis Hoe, dated at Caxamarca, an interior town of Peru, conveying news of the murder by Indians of his four companions, A. Morton, Robt. Schmeling, John Hossman and Hans Mickelsen. It will be remembered that the party left Globe last March for South America to prospect the headwaters of the Amazon for gold. Hoe writes that after accompanying them for some time, he was taken sick and returned to Caxamarca, and subsequently, parties arriving there reported the killing of his four companions by natives. The news received by Hoe was so vague as to leave a doubt of its authenticity.
