Joseph Thomas Arizona Silver Belt May 7, 1896 Joseph Thomas, better known as "Uncle Tom" an old colored man who has lived here for fifteen years or more and was highly respected, died this morning about 4 o'clock of heart trouble. He had been ailing for some time but was not supposed to be seriously sick. The funeral will take place this afternoon from the residence of Mrs. C.R. Fiske, who befriended the old man. Uncle Tom was a native of Africa and claimed to be a son of a king. He ran away from home and went to California in flush times.
