Jesus Castenada Jose Sanches April 12, 1897 Arizona Silver Belt At Clifton, April 10, Jesus Castendada and Jose Sanches were killed by a premature blast. They were trying to blast a big piece of copper formed by a freeze up in one of the furnaces of the Arizona Copper Company. These pieces of copper are known as "sows." Castanada and Sanches had drilling a hole into the copper and were tamping giant powder into it when the shot went off, killing both instantly.
