Hall Brothers Arizona Silver Belt May 28, 1896 Dan Neal has been served with a summons to appear at Solomonville as a witness in the preliminary hearing of Steve Nixon and W.B. Traylor, who have been charged with the murder of the Hall brothers in the latter part of August 1891 near Ash Springs, Graham County. The disappearance of the Hall boys occasioned considerable excitement and speculation at the time, and the search for their bodies was continued for several months in the vicinity of Ash Springs by the widows of the missing men, and now, to confirm the saying that "Murder will out" Nixon and Traylor are under arrest charged with the crime upon the supposed confession of Sam Hatch, a confederate, who is also in custody and who has offered to turn states evidence. The Hall brothers, when killed, were on their way from Grant County New Mexico to the Upper Salt River Valley to look out a range to which to transfer their cattle. They are supposed to have been seen by Nixon and his men when they passed the Rail-N Ranch, headquarters of the Gebhard Cattle Company of which Nixon was foreman, and who it is alleged, followed the Halls and shot them down near Ash Springs and then took the bodies back to the Rail-N Ranch at Sheldon on the Gila and buried them. The day named in the subpoena for the hearing is August 29, a clerical error, doubtless intented to be May 29.
