MARCIAL AVILA March 1, 1896 Another muder is recorded at Morenci, the particulars of which are taken from the Solomonville Bulletin as follows: A Mexican by the name of Marcial Avila was fatally stabbed in the region of the heart by Candalario, a partner, last Sunday morning between 2 and 3 o'clock. It appears the two men were drinking at Pete Russel's bar, in an apparently friendly manner when Candarlario asked Avila to loan him some money which was refused, accompanied by a vulgar gesture common among the lower classes. A kind of quarrel ensued when Candarlario invited the deceased to step outside. The invitation was accepted and both men went out the rear door of the saloon when, without much, if any, parleying, the fatal stab was given. Candalario, when he saw what he had done, immediately ran to his house, secured his blankets and left for parts unknown. Deceaed lived about one hour, but told who did the stabbing before he died. No one saw the act committed, but one of two Mexicans saw the men at the bar, hard them quarreling and saw them leave the saloon by the rear door, but whether they would or could identify the murder if caught is a "quien sabe" case. The ante mortem statement of the deceased, however, is first class evidence in its way but probably won't weigh enough to convict the man. An inquest will be held this evening which will perhaps throw more light on the subject. In the meantime the ofifcers will attmept to locate and bring the murderer to justice.
