Concluding services followed in the Franklin Cemetery. Speck was born August 31, 1928, in Franklin, the son of Clarence Tellis and Thaddie Haiden Bourgeous. He grew up, obtaining his formal education from Franklin and Duncan schools. Following his graduation from high school, Speck relocated to Idaho, while on his way to Alaska. While there, he met Shirley Haycock. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 18, 1949. Soon after, Speck and Shirley returned to Franklin and began raising their family. Throughout the next several years, the family made their residence in Arizona, California, Idaho and Utah. In 1956, Speck moved his family to Willcox, as he obtained work with the El Paso Nautral Gas Company as a maintenance man. In 1966, he obtained work with the Phelps Dodge Mining Corporation of Morenci. This enabled Speck to bring his family back home to Franklin. His duties with the mine were that of a heavy equipment mechanic. Although his work with the mine occupied much of his time, Speck also made time to serve the Lord. His willing hands served in many capacities in the church including: a counselor in the Bishopric; Ward Missionary; Sunday school teacher; High Priest; Home Teacher and Scoutmaster. His service as Scoutmaster gave Speck an opportunity to impact the lives of many young men. Speck also was active in the community serving on the Franklin Cemetery Committee, as Ditch Boss and past President of the New Model Canal Board, and founder and Fire Chief for 14 years of the Duncan Rural Fire Department. Speck also enjoyed the time spent assisting his good friend Lark Wilkins in cooking with the "Chuck Wagon" where he was known for his delicious gravy. In 1993, following more than 27 years of dedicated work, Speck retired from the copper mine. Speck will be remembered as a gentleman farmer, and good friend to many. His love for life and his family will not soon be forgotten. Speck is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley of Franklin; his daughter, Maurine Aden of Duncan; his three sons, Samuel LaGrande of Glendale, David Bruce of Buckeye and Daniel Tellis, of Queen Creek; two sisters, Wanda Taylor of McCallon, Texas and Eldiva Smith of Cedar City, Utah; two brothers, Ordith W. Bourgeus of Syracuse, Utah, and Aulvie K. Bourgeous of Cedar Ciy, Utah; numerous nieces and nephews; 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Arrangements were entrusted to Bunker's Caldwell Chapel. Additional Comments: According to Speck's birth certificate, his middle name is actually spelled "Lagrand". Also, his funeral was on Tues. Nov 4, 2003, not on the 5th as misquoted in the above obituary.
