MRS ANTONIO ENRIQUEZ FRANCISCO ZAPEDA April 8, 1910 Az Republican Newspaper Globe: Believing that his wife was giulty of illicit realtions with her own father, Antonio Enriquez, a Mexican murdered her with an axe, and killed Francisco Zapaeda, his father-in-law with the same weapon near Solomonville early yesterday morning according to advices received here yesterday. Enriquez made an ineffectual attempt at suicide. He was later arrested and placed in custody. His injuries are serious but he will recover. According to a Mexican woman who lived near the scene of the tragedy the trio quarreled violently in the early part of the evening. Later she heard Mrs. Enriquez scream for help. It is thought that Enriquez had attacked his father-in-law with an axe, to avenge a fancied wrong and that when his wife attempted to interfere he cleft her skull with the axe and stabbed her. Both bodies were horribly mutilated. Enriquez cut his own throat after the tragedy and fell exhausted in a clump of bushes where he was later discovered by a posse. Enriquez admits killing his father-in-law but claims that he acted in self defense and killed his wife when she attempted to interfere.
