Fred Fritz Johnny Cromb Arizona Republican Newspaper, Phoenix March 13, 1905 The Clifton Era tells of two narrow escapes from the flood waters as follows: Fred Fritz, the Blue River ranchman whose supposed drowning was reported last week has turned up alive. It seems that he got caught in a bend of the river with a precipitous bluff on one side where he was held for five days by the high water. Johnny Cromb came near downing. In the swift heavy water, Mr. Johnson managed to get hold of him but his hold slipped and Mr. Cromb was carried on down stream. He sank several times and went under for the last time when a powerful Mexican and a good swimmer jumped in and by diving caught Mr. Cromb, brought him to the surface and managed to make a landing with him. At that time Mr. Cromb was insensible but after being rolled around until the water was shaken out of him, he revived and was taken home and was soon fully recovered.
