Ry, 10 miles n w of Phoenix the county seat. Has Baptist, Methodist and United
Brethren churches, a bank, 2 hotels, 2 opera houses, an ice plant and a large
sugar refinery. A weekly newspaper the News is published. The country adjacent
to Glendale is noted for its marvelous soil which produces canteloupe melons in
great quantities and of a superior quality. Alfalfa yields abundantly.
