Book Title: Polk's Arizona Pictorial Gazetteer And Business Directory

  WICKENBURG. Pop 600. Maricopa county. A town on the S F P & P Ry 55 miles n w
of Phoenix the county seat and usual banking point. Has a Presbyterian church, 2
hotels and an opera house. A weekly newspaper the Miner is published. Mining is
the principal industry; considerable farming is done and some of the finest
fruits and vegetables are raised. There are many thousands of acres of land
tributary that could be brought under cultivation by well irrigation. Large
numbers of cattle and sheep are raised. Has an elevation of 2,075 feet. The
climate is especially fine and this would be a fine location for a sanitarium
for the treatment of throat and pulmonary troubles.
