P.M. James, 85, Chandler Banker

P.M. James, who organized and built the First National Bank of Chandler and who 
helped to orgainze the Arizona Pima Cottongrowers Association, died Tuesday at 
St. Joseph's Hospital.

Mr. James, 85, was a resident of Arizona for 53 years and of Phoenix for 46.

Rosary for Mr. James will be at 8 p.m. tonight at St. Francis Xavier Catholic 
Church with a fourth-degree Knights of Columbus chalice service.

Requiem High Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at the church, with 
burial following in St. Francis Cemetery.  Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. 
today at Whitney and Murphy Funeral Home.

A native of Tennessee, Mr. James worked for the Chandler Improvement Co. and 
the Bank of Chandler before becoming a farmer and cattle rancher.  He pioneered 
the First National Bank of Chandler, which he managed from 1919 to 1921 before 
moving to Phoenix to help initiate the cottongrowers association as its first 
secretary and manager.

James was a Knight of Columbus at St. Francis Xavier parish, and a member of 
the Casey Club.  Before his death he was active in real estate brokerage and 
farming.

Survivors include two sons, William H. and P.M. Jr; one daughter, Gertrude R., 
all three of Phoenix; one sister, Annie L., Shawnee, Okla; and 9 grandchildren.

The family suggests offerings be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor in 
Phoenix.

P.M. stood for Pleasant McMahon James.  He also went by Mack.
