WILLIAM KRAMER ATTORNEY AT LAW Born in Marshall, Mo., Dec. 16, 1881, son of Stephen and Mary B. (Cramer) Kramer, both deceased. One brother (Joseph) and two sisters (Katherine and Philomena) died in infancy. Has one brother (Oscar W.) and two sisters (Mamie Kramer Bender and Elizabeth Kramer George) now of Kansas City, Kansas. Educated in public and high schools of Kansas City, Kansas, graduating in 1899. Prior to entering the active practice of law and after teaching two years, Mr. Kramer attained extensive business and executive experience in banking, lumbering, railroading, livestock and investment circles, which has served as a valued factor in his later successful career as legal counsel for many of the leading corporate interests of the Southwest. Legal education in Chattanooga College of Law and University of Texas, followed by post-graduate study as secretary to U. S. Judge William H. Sawtelle. First came to Arizona in 1903. In 1915 admitted to practice in Supreme Court of Arizona and U. S. Dist. Court of Arizona, and following year appointed Asst. U. S. Dist. Atty. for Arizona. During 1916-17 served as Asst. Attorney Gen. of Arizona, and in 1919- 22 was special counsel for the Arizona State Tax Comm. Also served as City Attorney of Phoenix, 1922-23. In 1911 became a member of the long-established law firm of Armstrong, Lewis, and Kramer of Phoenix and commands an extensive practice, serving many of the larger interests of the Southwest, specializing in corporation, banking, insurance and public utility law. Mr. Kramer has served as Pres. of Kiwanis Club, Exalted Ruler and State Pres. of B. P. O. Elks, Pres. and Dir. Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, State Deputy (two terms) Knights of Columbus, (fourth degree member), Vice-Chairman and Member of the Board of Trustees Phoenix Library, and was first Pres. of the Phoenix Board of Public Works. He holds membership in the Arizona Club and Phoenix Country Club; is Director and Trust Officer of the First National Bank of Arizona; Director of Phoenix Savings Bank & Trust Company; Vice-Pres. and Director of First Federal Savings & Loan Association, and Director of Southwestern Fire Insurance Co. He owns substantial interests in Phoenix, as stockholder, director, and legal counsel in many business and financial corporations. Member of Maricopa County (President 1923-24) and Arizona State Bar Associations. On April 25, 1917 he married Hilda Frieda Steinegger, daughter of Alexander and Caroline (Thomas) Steinegger, pioneer settlers of Arizona, and they have one son, Victor William, born September 25, 1921, now a student in Santa Clara University. Mr. Kramer is among the men of outstanding initiative, ability, integrity, and accomplishment, who have contributed much to the growth and development of Arizona. Still in the active practice of the law, Mr. Kramer (since the death of Thomas Armstrong in 1937) is senior partner of his law firm, Armstrong, Kramer, Morrison, Roche, and Duffy, with offices in the First National Bank Building, Phoenix.
